Picture This Too!: February 2013

JJ and Hannalee went to spend Thursday night and all day Friday with Meme and Papa John in Weatherford. They were out of school because of Parent Teacher Conferences on Friday.

Meme said that Papa had big plans for JJ at the creek....I thought it would involve a tractor and not guns. But this is what they did...and yes....it was OK. :)

While they were at the creek they collect shells. When they got home, they "didn't want them to die" so they put them in the bathtub.....with water. And grass. Yes...grass...they just wanted it to look like the creek. In the my bathtub! LOL..

This is Meme's email telling me about the shooting at the creek....

Here's part of JJ's shooting lesson story. And, that's what this was about...learning gun safety and how to use one correctly...with Uncle Shawn. JJ wasn't sure about it at all once they got to the creek. Shawn had made him a big target and one of those big spools like we have at the cabin by the grill thing out front, so he could lean on it and be steady. Anyway, he didn't want to shoot at all when they got there. Shawn shot his pellet gun to show him how. He still wasn't interested. He finally said, "I don't want to kill anyone." !!! Well, bless his heart!!! Shawn told him that none of us want to kill anybody that's why we're down here at the creek shooting at the bank and at a target. We're just teaching you how to do it safely. They got Skylar's little, short shotgun. I think he shot that finally. Then PaPa had Grandpa Winn's 22 rifle...it's little and lighter than Shawn's pellet gun which is close to a BB gun), and PaPa held it and told JJ just to pull the trigger if he wanted to. He kind of liked that. Then PaPa helped him hold the gun and pull the trigger. He said, "Hey, I'm finally getting the hang of this!" He finally shot over 100 rounds of ammo! Yes, he liked it. He said, "Here I am at the creek...with my two best buddies!" You think PaPa and Uncle Shawn didn't love that! JJ told me that They shot into the creek...Just like on Duck Dynasty. I think that's when he liked it. Hope that's all ok! lyl

Hannalee made pie crust...all by herself....

And she got to go get her nails done...fingers AND toes!!! Such a girl!!

Each class from Merritt Elementary in 1st grade to 6th grade had 2 kids each that were selected to go to Arapaho for the Speech Contest. JJ got to go! He did a great job! We found him this cute poem!! He memorized it in no time flat! He received a score of a 1+ That's the best score you can get!

Playin' Cowboy

I love to be a cowboy
and ride my horse around the room.
He's black and white and he won't bite
(he's really Mommy's broom) .

I shoot my guns at bad guys
when I ride down the trail.
(they're really just my dog and cat
and my closet is the jail) .

I ride and rope wild horses, too,
and bring them to my camp
(it's really just the 'lectric cord)
...uh oh, I broke a lamp!

Oops! Here comes the Sheriff
and it looks like he is mad!
I'd better clean this mess up!
